A theory is an interrelated, coherent set of ideas that helps to explain phenomena and facilitate predictions. An example of a theory is the psychoanalytic theory. A hypothesis is a specific assumption or prediction that can be tested to determined its accuracy. For example, a researcher predicts that all the students in a particular school follow the same method to prepare for a test.
