What are the elements of a preliminary investigation? What is a follow-up investigation?

What will be an ideal response?

A preliminary investigation includes: 1) determine if additional assistance will be necessary and may request assistance from detectives, arson investigators, the coroner, or evidence technicians; 2) summon medical assistance render first aid to any injured parties; and 3) control access to the area to prevent the destruction of evidence.
The follow-up investigation will be initiated when the case is turned over to the detective unit. If a suspect has already been arrested, the detective’s primary responsibility is to process the materials and evidence gathered so the prosecutor can file charges and present the case in court.
