What does it mean to be “stateless”? In your discussion, address how being stateless affects a person or population’s life chances. Use at least one specific example involving a stateless population to support and develop your points.

What will be an ideal response?

Being stateless involves having no country to call home or claim citizenship. In other words, to be stateless is to have no legal identity. Without a state or home, millions are without rights, basic services such as education, and legal protections. The stateless often lack official papers which limits mobility, work, and personal freedoms. Stateless persons are found all around the world and are often from racial, ethnic and religious minority groups, such as the Rohingya in Myanmar or Roma in Europe. One third of the stateless are children.
