Because of this, quantitative data collection and analysis techniques are inappropriate for use with small numbers of participants or populations as they do not adequately represent participants with any level of detail other than the numbers gathered from the quantitative measurement(s) employed in the study. This means that quantitative data collection and analysis techniques are inadequate for allowing researchers to make detailed analyses of one study’s participants. Yet another weakness of quantitative data collection and analysis techniques lies in the fact that the degree of variation among data types is controlled through the use of instruments that measure data very specifically and in limited ways; this in turn eliminates any variation among participants that naturally exist. As a result, the focus on objectivity in quantitative data collection and analysis may affect studies in more ways than we currently understand. The extremely narrow emphasis on quantitative data yields these studies as partially incomplete because no contextual information is taken into account when interpreting the results in these studies.
