Use specific sports to illustrate each of the six components of skill-related fitness
What will be an ideal response?
Answers will vary. Gymnastics: A significant amount of agility is necessary to perform a double back somersault with a full twist — a skill during which the athlete must simultaneously rotate around one axis and twist around a different one. Static balance is essential for maintaining a handstand or a scale. Dynamic balance is needed to perform many of the gymnastics routines (such as those on balance beam, parallel bars, and pommel horse). Coordination is important to successfully integrate multiple skills, each with its own degree of difficulty, into one routine. Power and speed are needed to propel the body into the air, such as when tumbling or vaulting. Quick reaction time is necessary to determine when to end rotation upon a visual clue, such as spotting the floor on a dismount.
