Responses will vary; Stress results from our experience of and reaction to stressors. Some stress is beneficial. However, unmanaged stressful demands can arouse anxiety, which in turn often causes mental and physical harm. Stress has been linked as a major factor in several diseases such as respiratory ailments, immunologic disorders, dental problems, and skin conditions. Stress has been related to gastrointestinal diseases resulting in diarrhea, constipation, and ulcerative colitis. Additionally, musculoskeletal disorders (i.e. low back pain, TMJ, and migraines), respiratory distress (i.e. asthma, hay fever, and allergic reactions), skin conditions (i.e. hives, eczema, and psoriasis), and metabolic disorders (i.e. thyroid malfunctions and diabetes) have been linked to stress.
