The “four Ds” include: 1) the degradation of air (air pollution), water, and land; 2) depletion of natural resources; 3) deforestation; and 4) waste disposal. Students should briefly explain each. Students should go into detail on one example, illustrating how it impacts the environment and/or humans in the environment. Examples might include deforestation and the impacts on women and children who rely on forests for survival, or the lack of clean drinking water which contributes to millions of deaths each year (2,200 children a day). Familiarity with the text and a complete discussion of the example chosen should be provided.
