Discuss the problem of minority overrepresentation in the juvenile justice system

What will be an ideal response?

Minority youths are overrepresented in the juvenile system and receive inequitable treatment. Minority youths are less likely than whites to be diverted from the court system into informal sanctions and are more likely to receive sentences involving incarceration. Nationally, the ratio of minority custody to white custody is 2.6 to 1 . In some states the ratio is greater than 4 to 1 . Black youths are 16 percent of the population, but 38 percent of those confined in local detention and state correctional facilities—overrepresented in all offense categories.
