If a person with a wrist injury suffers damage to the radial artery, which is temporarily tied off, how will the circulation to the hand be affected?
What will be an ideal response?
Blood is supplied to the hand by both a radial and an ulnar artery. If the radial artery is tied off or otherwise becomes unable to deliver blood to the hand, the supply can be continued through the ulnar artery, which anastomoses with the radial at both the superficial and deep palmar arches. Blood can reach the digital arteries through either of these arches and either of the arteries of the forearm.
