In what ways will you establish a positive atmosphere for parent-teacher conferences?

What will be an ideal response?

To establish a positive atmosphere, a teacher can do the following:
- establish a comfortable environment (seat parents nearby, provide them with adult-sized chairs, greet them and ensure they are not left waiting, etc.);
- engage in a few minutes of casual conversation before the conference;
- start and end the conference on a positive note;
- Save challenging issues for the middle of conference;
- limit the number of concern expressed at any one time;
- describe something about the child that shows the parent(s) that you know the child in ways that extend beyond academic performance; and
- save time for parents' questions.
