Briefly define a content analysis. Provide a brief example of a researcher conducting this type of research.

What will be an ideal response?

Content analysis involves reviewing records of communication and systematically searching, recording, and analyzing themes and trends in those records. This might include any examples that involve transcribed interviews or open-ended responses to surveys, historical documents, legal codes, newspapers, advertisements from many sources, song lyrics, movies, TV shows, books and magazines, websites and chat rooms, among myriad others. The example can be anything from topics such as terrorism to nudist community forums to gay pride parades/events; the important terms to note in the response include “themes” and “trends” found in the records (whatever the record may be).
