Describe the economic condition of the elderly
What will be an ideal response?
The economic status of the elderly is not homogeneous. Some older people have moderate to high incomes from savings, investments, and private retirement programs. However, most of the elderly have no income other than Social Security. The rate of poverty among the elderly has declined since 1960, but the government uses a different standard to measure poverty for the elderly. If the near poor are counted, about one in six of those over the age of sixty-five are poor.
