Paula Abdul had a hit song called "Opposites Attract." Was Paula right according to recent research? Why or why not?

What will be an ideal response?

Informal evidence suggests that opposites may in fact attract, and that we sometimes find people attractive who are very different from ourselves. However, direct tests of these propositions have failed to support complementarities—differences that, when combined, compliment each other—as determinants of attraction. Overall, there is little if any evidence for the suggestion that opposites attract (although there are exceptions to this general rule, such as the complementarities of dominance and submissiveness).
