Explain semiconservative replication as it relates to DNA synthesis, or replication

What will be an ideal response?

During DNA synthesis, or replication, the two strands of DNA separate and serve as templates on which a new double strand of DNA is built. At the completion of DNA synthesis, two identical double helices result. Each double helix contains one old strand of DNA and one newly formed strand of DNA. The preservation of one original strand of DNA is why this replicative process is known as semiconservative replication.
