Describe the seven steps that one must take to become a self-regulated learner

What will be an ideal response?

Answer will include the following steps:
(1) Set specific, objective learning goals. Try to begin each learning session with specific goals in mind.
(2) Plan a learning strategy. Make daily, weekly, and monthly plans for how you will accomplish your goals.
(3) Be your own teacher. Effective learners silently give themselves guidance and ask themselves questions.
(4) Monitor your progress. Exceptional learners keep records of their progress toward learning goals, that is, pages read, hours of studying, and assignments completed. They quiz themselves, use study guides, make sure they follow the reflective SQ4R system, and find other ways to check their understanding while learning.
(5) Reward yourself. When you meet your daily, weekly, or monthly goals, reward your efforts in some way, such as going to a movie or buying a CD and through self-praise. In the long run, success, self-improvement, and personal satisfaction are the real payoffs for learning.
(6) Evaluate your progress and goals. It is a good idea to frequently evaluate your performance records and goals. If you are not making good progress toward long-range goals, maybe you need to revise your short-term targets.
(7) Take corrective action. If you fall short of your goals, you may need to adjust how you budget your time. You may also need to change your learning environment to deal with distractions. If you discover that you lack necessary knowledge or skills, ask for help, take advantage of tutoring programs, or look for information at websites suggested by your textbook.
