Which of the five elements of reading is most important and why?
What will be an ideal response?
Elements of reading include the following: phonological awareness, noticing minimal sound units of speech; phonics, focusing on sound-symbol relationships in reading and spelling; vocabulary, understanding words that make up language; fluency, reading with proper rate, accuracy, and expression; and comprehension, understanding intended communication. Of these five, comprehension is most important, because it is the purpose of reading and all of the other elements facilitate it.
