Which Change Is Easier – Proactive or Reactive?
What will be an ideal response?
? The purpose of this debate is to highlight that each change effort is different, and
therefore the approach taken to accomplish it will also significantly differ.
? Both proactive and reactive change efforts have their own sets of advantages and
challenges.
? Proactive change implies less urgency and more difficulty in convincing
stakeholders who may believe the change is unneeded or premature. On the other
hand more resources and time are available to develop an enticing vision.
? In dealing with reactive change, urgency may be present and thus employees may
be more open to accepting the change. However, as time and budgets will be
more constrained, the change may also be experienced as more abrupt and
anxiety-provoking.
