Why are modern Africans more genetically diverse than people of other regions?
What will be an ideal response?
The oldest Homo sapiens fossils come from Ethiopia. The large number of differences among African populations indicates that these populations have existed and have been accumulating random mutations for a very long time. Furthermore, most genetic variation seen in non-African populations is a subset of the variation found inside Africa. This is evidence that founder effects occurred when subsets of the African population left to colonize the rest of the world.
