What are the arguments for and against the privatization of prisons?

What will be an ideal response?

The primary argument in favor of privatization is the cost savings, as privately run facilities can be run more inexpensively than state institutions that are part of a larger bureaucracy. Also, jobs are made available in rural parts of the state with the construction of private prisons and the administration of contracts by them. Opponents argue that since some contracts are made with other states, Texas is importing violent criminals who have much less contact with home and family than average. This and the desire for profitability are likely to make the conditions in private facilities more dangerous and less humane than in public ones, and create an incentive for a continual prison population.
