Describe the four types of undercover operations. Discuss the problems associated with entrapment and how law enforcement officers can avoid this pitfall
What will be an ideal response?
Answer: Answers should include a brief description of the reverse sting, the controlled buy, the buy-bust and the buy-walk. Entrapment involves police agents acting undercover inducing the arrestee to commit a crime that was not contemplated beforehand. In order to argue against the charge of entrapment, it must be demonstrated that the idea of committing the crime came from the defendant rather than the police.
Cases associated with entrapment include: Sorrells v. United States (1932), Sherman v. United States (1958), and Jacobson v. United States (1992).
