How does Cattell's conceptualization of abnormal behavior compare to that of Horney?

What will be an ideal response?

In addition to the sixteen factors Cattell proposed as source traits, i.e., the basis for normal personality, he also proposed an additional twelve factors that determine abnormal personality. Horney discussed three primary trends or personalities in her description of the abnormal personality: moving toward others (the compliant personality), moving away from others (the avoidant personality) and moving against others (the aggressive personality). Each of these trends are composed of a number of related characteristics. These characteristics can be seen as similar to Cattell's surface traits and the trends can be seen as similar to Cattell's source traits. Some of Cattell's abnormal traits are described in similar ways to the trends of Horney. For example, someone who scores high in bored depression tends to avoid contact with others and seeks isolation. This is similar to Horney's trend of moving away from others. However, while Cattell distinguishes between neurosis and psychosis, Horney focuses only on the neurotic personality.
