Write a note on traditional management in the context of organizational behavior
Early in the 1900s the American work force began to move from farms to small towns and growing cities. The strong beliefs and values of the agricultural workers were carried into their new jobs. Often referred to as the "Protestant Work Ethic" these beliefs included:
(1) Work itself is rewarding.
(2) Hard work will be recognized and rewarded by others and by God.
(3) Owners have been chosen by God for their efforts and wisdom and thus should be followed without question.
Thus the separate roles of the owners and the workers within organizations was clear; and this provided a simple, universal principle of how to manage organizations: managers performed all managerial duties due to their position and superior intelligence.
