During an inferential interview, what inferences may be drawn from the sentence structure of the answers received?
What will be an ideal response?
The words, phrases, and sentence structure provide clues for further investigation and contain a
wealth of information for the interviewer (Rabon, 1994). From this perspective, sentence
construction is influenced by the individual's learned communication skills in addition to
whether the person is trying to convince, deceive, or be truthful. Statements may be examined for
what is missing and what is apparent. A key component is that the interviewer be open to what
the words may reveal.
