How are permanent and excited field charging system regulated?
What will be an ideal response?
In the permanent magnet charging system regulation is done by controlling the gates to three SCRs in the regulator. These SCRs short the alternator output to ground to reduce the output of the system. In an excited field charging system regulation occurs by changing the field coil current to create a stronger or weaker magnet. As the field coil's magnetism is diminished the charging current to the battery goes down.
