Ans: Racial segregation has prevented Blacks from living in neighborhoods with resources and productive schools. Blacks had limited choice or no choice on where they could live. This impacted the generational wealth or social class of Blacks which made it difficult to have upward mobility or have the ability to or option to move to a better location. Furthermore, segregated neighborhoods have lower quality education and hospitals, so this impacted and still impacts Black life chances. The primary sources of wealth for Whites is home equity, which Blacks were not afforded to live in neighborhoods with high property values. Property values still impacts racial minorities today and helps explain how segregation impacts social class and residence for Blacks.
