Why are norms important?

What will be an ideal response?

Norms are very important because they govern the behavior of each individual and ultimately the group. Often norms are already in existence in a group without the group realizing it. For example, the most vocal person automatically may become the leader. Sometimes, it becomes acceptable for one person to show up late to a group meeting because that person is always late. If these unspoken norms are not acceptable, it is important that they be talked about at this stage of team development or they may lessen the effectiveness of team communication. The team, as a team, must agree to change unacceptable norms.
