The bacterium Clostridium botulinum, which grows in food stored improperly, produces a toxin that
blocks acetylcholine release in neuromuscular junctions. These muscles are not able to contract. The
toxin is used for cosmetic treatment of wrinkles (the brand name for the product is Botox).
