What will be an ideal response?
Resilience refers to the idea that despite maltreatment some children develop into happy and well-adjusted adults. There are several protective factors that may contribute to good outcomes for maltreated children. The authors believe based on research that a main protective factor is a secure attachment between an infant and mother or caregiver which helps build competence, confidence, autonomy, and so on, as the infant grows. The biggest protective factor for children experiencing adversity is quality parenting, or in the instance where the parent child relationship is disrupted, a quality alternate caregiver. Risk factors include above average intelligence has also been related to higher resilience in maltreatment children, because they are more self-motivated. As far as risk factors go, having anxious attachment is a risk factor, and not having access to alternative caring adults are a risk.
