Saturation patrols or crackdowns are where large numbers of police officers are temporarily assigned to a high-crime area. Stop and frisk is used when a police officer questions a suspicious person, the officer has the right to pat that person down for weapons if the officer has a reasonable suspicion that the person might be armed with a weapon. Research demonstrates that police departments can use directed patrol to affect crime problems in specific locations.
