Explain the difference between Daoist temples and Confucian temples.

Daoist temples are more colorful and elaborate than those of other religions in China. They are ornately decorated both on the exterior and in the interior. Those who visit and worship there often add brightly colored flowers and streamers to decorate the temple. Color, particularly red, is seen as bringing blessing and good luck.
Unlike Daoist or Buddhist temples, Confucian temples do not normally have images. In early years, Confucius and his disciples were probably represented with wall paintings and statues. However, there was rising opposition to this practice, which over time was seen as Buddhist. In the 1500s C.E., all existing images of Confucius were replaced with memorial tablets in imperial temples in the capital and other bureaucratic locations. However, statues are still found in temples controlled by Confucius's family descendants, such as that in Qufu. The point of almost all Confucian temples is to honor and promote Confucius's teachings, not Confucius himself. Confucius is a human example, not a god.
