Why do many starters have manual resets?

What will be an ideal response?

If the starter resets automatically, the contacts would close and energize the motor again after the heaters have cooled. This will allow the motor to continuously turn on and off and possibly damage the motor. With a manual reset it is impossible for the motor to be energized until the overload is reset (after finding and correcting the problem).
