Discuss the issues incarcerated mothers deal with in prison and the types of programs that are offered to help in some institutions to deal with these issues

What will be an ideal response?

The separation of women prisoners from their children can be very traumatic. Many women's prisons are located in rural areas away from their families, so they often lose contact with their children. Mothers can feel depressed and guilty for breaking up the family. Some prisons have allowed infants to live in prisons with their mothers up to 18 months in order to keep a bond. One prison allows babies 6 months and younger to live with their mothers in prison while their mother participates in parenting classes.
