Define and discuss gay male intimate partner violence

What will be an ideal response?

Persons in same-sex and transgender relationships define intimate partner abuse in ways that are similar to heterosexual abuses. For example, gay male intimate partner abuse refers to any unwanted physical force, psychological abuse, and material or property damage inflicted by one man on another.
Another definition attempts to illustrate the similarity between heterosexual intimate abuse and gay intimate partner abuse. The National Coalition of Anti-Abuse Programs (NCAVP) suggests that the patterns of abuse recognizable in heterosexual abuse against women can be seen in abuse among GLBT couples. For this reason, a definition that is inclusive of all victims has been furthered by the NCAVP: Intimate partner abuse is defined as a pattern of behaviors utilized by one partner (the abuser or batterer) to exert and maintain control over another person (the survivor or victim) where there exists an intimate, loving, and dependent relationship. Under this definition, the abusive behaviors of same-gender intimate partners are assumed to be similar to heterosexual intimate partner abuse.
