Explain the importance of using a functional analysis to identify the function of a problem behavior and how it relates to the identification and strengthening of an alternative response
What will be an ideal response?
All behavior is functional. By understanding the function a behavior is serving, it allows the practitioner to identify alternative behaviors that will 1) get the same amount or "quality" of reinforcement as the problem behavior, and 2) requires the same or less amount of effort to access the reinforcement. During a punishment procedure, this alternative response should be identified and provided through contingent access.
