Discuss the pivotal role that victim assistance services play in the aftermath of a crime.

What will be an ideal response?

Following victimization, many victims and their families may need a variety of social and mental health services. Victim assistance organizations help provide such services that include crisis intervention, supportive counseling, resource mobilization, filing compensation claims, information about the criminal justice system, and employment education. All of which help the victim to recover and return to a life as close to normal as possible. The development and advocacy of victim assistance, along with the progression of victims’ rights and legislative policy, has led to an increase in services offered to victims at both the state and federal level.
