The second type requires students to calculate the percentage of an original quantity and then either add or subtract that amount from the original quantity:
Bill borrowed $80 from the bank. He must pay 8% interest on the loan. How much must he pay back to the bank? (.08 × 80 = 6.40, $80.00 + $6.40 = $86.40). The second type tends to be more difficult for students.
