Choose a research question. Then propose to answer this question with a qualitative research method discussed in this chapter. Why would you choose this particular method rather than the other methods? Then discuss some concerns you may have in carrying out your research project. Are there any ethical concerns you would have to keep in mind? Is there any way you could potentially avoid these ethical concerns?

What will be an ideal response?

Answers will vary. I want to know the prevalence of sexual victimization on college campuses. Since it is a sensitive topic, I would most likely use intensive interviewing. I would choose this topic because I think that focus groups would not allow for a safe space to discuss this topic. Observations would not work since this is a crime that occurs in private. This is also why I would not conduct an ethnography. Some concerns I have would be with recruiting participants, getting respondents to answer truthfully, and potential emotional harm to participants. One ethical concern in particular I would have would relate whether or not I would need to report an incident if someone revealed a sexual victimization to me. I could not avoid an ethical concern, but I would be able to debrief my participants and provide them with resources, this would hopefully reduce harm.
