Choose a section of this chapter (at least two pages long) or of another chapter in this book that interests you. Using a highlighter, effectively highlight several paragraphs. Then switch to margin notes for a few paragraphs and finally finish the section by taking full notes on summary paper.
What will be an ideal response?
Responses will vary according to selections chosen by students. Refer to pages 180 and 181 for examples of effective highlighting. Refer to pages 184-186 for examples of margin notes. An example of full notes appears on page 189. If you prefer, you can choose the section they take notes on, photocopy the pages, and hand them out to the students.
