White privilege refers to the unearned privilege, advantages, and benefits that American society confers on White individuals. It may impact a person’s vision by: White privilege may dim or distort our vision. The more privilege one has, the more difficult it is to consider how one’s own actions affect others with less privilege. Those who have White privilege may take their privilege for granted--rights such as being heard, being treated fairly, and having access to time, space, and resources. The more power and privilege one has, the more difficult it is to think about the rage of those who lack such privilege.
