Define the Rule of Thirds and explain how it can be helpful when planning an interior planting design

The Rule of Thirds is handy when building a concept for an interiorscape. Visually divide the height of
the room into thirds. Plants may occupy a subordinate or dominant part of the space. This technique
can be employed as soon as you walk into a room that is in need of interiorscaping. It gives the
designer an instant direction to take in order to make design decisions and suggestions for a client. The
same concept can be used for horizontal spaces, such as developing designs for interiorscaping a long
hallway. A conscious use of this technique may help avoid using plants that are too small for a space,
which is a common problem with inexperienced interiorscapers.
