They felt it should include general and specific training, and the general training is about teaching someone their culture’s moral codes, values, and norms. S/F also tends to see outcomes as aligning with the right functions in society, and does not account for how inequalities might affect the right person getting the right training. It may talk about how schools teach students to value achievement. Conflict theorists are more critical of socializing people to accept cultural values and norms and see people as more diverse, take an account of power. Conflict theorists do not see the role of education in such a benign light as S/F. They see the socializing role as preparing students to be “good workers”: submissive, docile, punctual, and hardworking.
