Why might parents have differing perspectives on schools? (Reflect on both negative

and positive perspectives).

What will be an ideal response?

Parent experiences in school influence their perspective on the schooling of their children
Negative parent perspectives can stem from the following: 1) parents have a nostalgic view that teachers are not as dedicated as they were in the past; 2) parents transfer personal feelings of discomfort coming from their school experiences to their perspective of the child's experiences; or 3) some parents feel vulnerable and the school environment makes them uncomfortable.

Positive perspectives might include the following: 1) feeling good about school and its environment; 2) viewing school as a place to learn; 3) seeing school as a place for children to be with friends and 4) appreciating school as the place to be nurtured intellectually and emotionally. These perspectives stem from a parent's from positive school experiences as a child, are highly motivating and influence their school performance expectations of school for their children. Parents with positive perspectives on school tend to take leadership roles in parent–teacher associations.
