Many departments have ranks that are similar to those used in the military, police have uniforms, carry firearms, and value discipline. The police have started adopting military style tactics and utilize technology that was originally designed for military purposes, like radar, two-way radios, and night vision technologies. Add to this, the use of military style weapons and vehicles, and the end result is the accusation that the police are becoming “militarized.”
