What are the health risks associated with anal intercourse? What measures can one take to prevent them?
What will be an ideal response?
Anal intercourse can cause damage or injury to the tissue of the rectal lining and anal sphincter. It can lead to infections with various organisms. Of greatest concern, HIV can be transmitted through anal intercourse. For these reasons, safer sex consists of either refraining from engaging in anal intercourse or using a condom (or doing it only in a monogamous relationship with an uninfected partner). Furthermore, for heterosexuals the penis should never be inserted into the vagina after anal intercourse unless it has been washed thoroughly. The reason for this is that the rectum contains bacteria that do not belong in the vagina and that can cause a case of vaginitis if they happen to get there. Also, sex toys or other objects inserted in the anus should be thoroughly washed following removal from the anus.
