List and briefly describe the five attitudinal qualities that facilitate mindfulness

The five attitudinal qualities that facilitate mindfulness are beginner's mind, non-judging, acceptance, non-attachment, and non-striving.

A beginner's mind sees things "as if for the first time.". It is an observation full of curiosity, interest, and joy. The quality of non-judging represents straightforward observations, without inferring from what one is observing or evaluating it in any way. Acceptance means we acknowledge experiences as they are. To bring our focus more into the present, we can simply turn off the mind chatter and attend to what is with all of our senses. The quality of non-attachment refers to non-identification with the object of our attention. We resist the need to cling emotionally to anything—ideas, events, or periods of time. The quality of non-striving implies giving up our need to try to change anything. We give ourselves permission to allow this moment to be exactly as it is, and allow all things to be exactly as they are.
