A unit could focus on the theme of dinosaurs. It would start out with an introduction that reviews what the children know about dinosaurs. During this time, the knowledge level of the children will be evaluated. After the introduction, the children would be introduced to new information about dinosaurs. This information should be presented in a concrete manner, such as taking a field trip to a museum that has dinosaur skeletons and displays about these creatures. Then children should assimilate the information they learned by talking about it and drawing pictures of the dinosaurs they saw. Then children can do in-class activities based on what they learned, such as cutting out dinosaur footprints, acting out dinosaurs in a dramatization, and creating dinosaur dough sculptures. At the end of the unit, the children and teacher review the main points learned. Also, the teacher evaluates how well the unit met its objectives.
