Explain what aversive racism is and how it operates

What will be an ideal response?

ANSWER:
Aversive racism is a subtle form of racism in which European Americans feel aversive emotions around African Americans, almost unconsciously. These aversive emotions may lead them to discriminate. Individuals experiencing aversive racism may well claim to want to treat others equally regardless of race, but their discomfort around others of another race may lead them to shorten interactions or avoid interaction with African Americans. These behaviors may then lead to discrimination. For example, if a person conducting a job interview gives the African American candidate less time to answer or less time for the interview as a whole, the job may go to the European American candidate simply because the interviewer was uncomfortable interviewing an African American.?
