There are a number of disastrous environmental consequences, such as destruction of the ozone layer, secondary impacts from ejecta, wildfires, extremely high surface temperatures, low sunlight, and large tsunamis; and in the longer consequences would include drastically reduced solar energy and a subsequent lack of photosynthetic activity in plants and a lack of food for organisms higher in the food web.
