Are there any aspects of the police mission that this chapter fails to recognize and that should be added to the basic purposes of policing identified here? If so, what are they?

What will be an ideal response?

The basic purposes of policing discussed in the chapter include enforcing the law, apprehending offenders, preventing crime, preserving the peace, and providing services. This is really a comprehensive list that encompasses the entire mission. One suggestion might be to expand the latter two categories to better capture the myriad order maintenance and service functions that are the responsibility of police departments. In addition, although it is implied in several of the categories, one could also suggest adding public relations as another basic purpose.
