Why must rigid couplings be perfectly aligned?

What will be an ideal response?

They are not designed to compensate for any misalignment or end-float. They couple shafts together in the same fixed manner that welding them would, effectively making the two shafts into one. Near perfect alignment and proper support for the shafts is required. Any misalignment will cause excessive bearing wear and failure.
